This blog post will hopefully settle your range anxiety if you are thinking about a stay on the Yorkshire coast but worried about charging your EV or hybrid vehicle.
As the owner of an EV myself, I understand the need to plan ahead to ensure I don’t run out of charge! So here are some handy tips for you if you are due to stay with us or are wanting to plan a holiday. I’ll summarise some of the charging options available to you:
1. Stay in one of our properties with their own EV Charger
Skylark Beach House (Blue Anchor Road) and Lakeside Retreat (Discovery Way) both have a 7kWh charger available just for guests at the property. Just include access to the charger when you book, and then we charge for usage. You will need your own type-2 charge cable to attach to the charger and your car.
We also have 3 more properties with access to EASEE chargers. Just download the app and locate the charger and pay automatically for your usage. These properties are Bay Tree House (Sunrise Drive), Sophie Beach Hut (Turnberry Drive) and Bempton View (Britannia Drive). You will again need your own type-2 charge cable for these.
Hint: Put your car on charge on arrival and every evening after a trip out and take the worry away. If the charger doesn’t start straightaway, just contact Paula and we will activate it for you.
2. Use a communal charger at The Bay
There are now 2 communal chargers (3 hours max per session) on Woodspring Way at a cost of £6.20 per hour (22kWh chargers). Simply choose 1, 2 or 3 hours, tap your payment card, press the button and come back when your session has finished. You will need your own type-2 charge cable.
Hint: The right side charger seems more reliable. Any issues with the charger, just pop to reception and they will give you the telephone number to call to report issues or get your payment refunded. These are operated by Caravan Park Electrical Services Ltd (CPES).
3. Use a communal charger at Primrose Valley
There is a bank of 8 chargers nearby on Primrose Valley – check out zap-map.com for the precise location. These are fast, easy to use, operated by VendElectric. You will need your own type-2 charge cable. Download the app in advance so you are prepared.
Hint: Use the app in advance to check availability before setting off. Enjoy a drink in the bar or one of the other amenities at Primrose Valley whilst you wait.
4. Use a charger whilst you’re out and about
Some tourist attractions and pubs have their own chargers so you can plug in whilst you are out and about. For example:
The Farrier, Cayton – enjoy a meal and put your car on charge whilst you do so.
Sewerby Hall and Gardens – 2 chargers available whilst you visit the zoo, hall or gardens.
Public chargers in nearby towns of Bridlington, Scarborough, Malton, Pickering, Robin Hood’s Bay, and Whitby. All listed on zap-map.com
Please note that it is against site rules to use the domestic electricity supply to charge your car with a granny charger.
