Home | Information | What is there to do on rainy days in Filey?

Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather, but this article will hopefully give you some ideas if the weather isn’t great!

Swimming

Rather than getting wet in the rain, you have a few options for swimming in the local area. The easy option is to book into the onsite pool, which has the benefit of a poolside sauna and steam room too for keeping warm! The pool is open daily, from around 8am to 7pm (adults only and open sessions). There are also some aqua aerobics sessions too.

Or a bit further afield, there is a leisure pool with slides in Bridlington, and if your budget allows, there’s the Alpamare Pool and Spa in Scarborough.

Badminton and indoor tennis

There’s badminton, short tennis and big tennis bookable at the Hunmanby Hall and Golf, only a couple of miles from The Bay. You don’t need to be a member, just contact them to book in, and you can hire equipment too.

Fitness suite

There’s a well-equipped fitness suite, with treadmills, cycles, rowing machine and free weights, at The Bay leisure centre. Open daily, no need to book either! And free for all our guests. Older teenagers are welcome too, so just check with reception – younger teens may need to be with an adult.

Beauty Room

The beauty room upstairs at the leisure complex is open a few days a week and offers manicures, massages, and other beauty treatments. Book online in advance or during your stay.

Visit Filey town

Filey has plenty of shops, bars and cafes to keep you dry in the rain.  You can also visit the Filey Museum.

Dogs are allowed in Thirty coffee shop, Dixons, Maynards sweet shop and a few other local shops so no need to stand outside with them either! Filey is very dog-friendly so look out for the stickers in shop and cafe windows.

Visit Hunmanby village

Hunmanby is the nearest village to The Bay, and has a co-op store, a few local independent shops, cafes and takeaways. It also has the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery with a visitors centre and cafe – well worth a visit too on a rainy day!

Day trip to Bridlington

Even on a wet day, there is plenty to do out of the rain in Bridlington. There’s the new Forum complex with Cinema, bowling, arcades, bingo and restaurant. Or the local leisure centre has swimming and a climbing wall experience. There are plenty of shops, amusements, and a funfair too. Or visit Sewerby Hall, Gardens, and Zoo and take a walk around the house or visit their cafe.

Day trip to Scarborough

Scarborough has the wonderful Sea Life CentreAlpamareRotunda MuseumArt Gallery, plenty of shops, arcades and cafes to keep you occupied and fed and watered and under-cover.

There’s also the Hollywood Plaza cinema, Spa complex (live acts).

Day trips further afield (1 hour or so)

If its rainy now, but brightening up later, you could drive further afield to Whitby , York, or Hull which have lots of museums, cafes, bars and of course extra attractions such as York Minster, and Hull’s The Deep.

NYMR Railway, Pickering/Whitby

Take a steam train from Pickering to Whitby or stops in between. Sit back and relax. Dogs allowed too.

Playdale Farm Park, Cayton

Whilst the animals are kept outside, the farm boasts an excellent indoor play barn for small children (and big kids), so might be a good venue if the weather is changeable. And only a short drive from the Bay too!
